The oak is large and majestic. It has strong roots that penetrate deeply into the earth. Putting aside the curtain, the great tree appears as the synthesis of an idea, that of existence that flows in a continuous and eternal life cycle. The project is as ambitious as it is simple: by placing images of the same oak, of the same garden, pulling aside the curtains of the same house, one can see time flowing between the seasons, from the whitish and bony branches to the green and compact foliage, the redness of autumn and the whiteness of snow. The same goes for the hours of the day. It is not a story for someone, but the intimate perception of an awareness, of a descent into oneself, in which the author is not alone. She is accompanied by four little girls, four like the seasons or like the parts into which the day was divided. The cat and the tulip represent the animal and plant world and the insistence on gender says how important it is, in the photographer’s intentions, to bring the discourse of cyclicality back into a feminine wisdom. A wisdom that places itself outside the human, bordering on the sacred. A simple vision that shuns photographic, experimental, aestheticizing artifices, to aim directly at its inspiring motif, which is, after all, a pedagogical fairy tale, a story to be told.

Born in Brescia in 1956, Tiziana Arici opened her first studio in 1980. She began her professional career collaborating with companies, advertising agencies and publishing houses. She creates advertising campaigns in different fields: architecture, interiors, gardens and still life. She has published in numerous magazines, she has created photographic books alongside artists, documenting museums, libraries, gardens and has given images for book covers. Attentive to social issues that concern the lives of women and vulnerable subjects, she combines her professional work with collaboration with non-profit cooperatives and associations that work. She creates reportages that tell stories of life, resistance, strength and passion. She is a photography teacher at the Santa Giulia Academy of Fine Arts in Brescia, she leads photography and eye education workshops for children in primary schools and young people in secondary schools.

"The apparent detachment of the point of view welcomes in a single plot the suggestions of the shadow, the creative impulse of the light and the marking in space of each female body." Donata Negrini
