Lorenza Sannai

Dialogo e memoria

Sunday January 29th 2023
only between 10:30 AM and 1:00 PM

Painting is an attitude that is born intimately and as it is difficult to establish exactly where the need comes from, even less easy it is to separate the daily events from painting, so we could say that painting is in a dialogue with the state of mind and it is a work of the unconscious.
In the works of Lorenza Sannai geometry is not geometry: we do not find rules but only the use of tools that generate geometry, producing well defined shapes that interlock and push like wedges into each other. Thus the effect is one of order, but it is actually in constant motion. For this reason, when the painting is finished it is not finished: it is up to the viewer to make contact with it, to perhaps move it, turn it, almost becoming physically engaged in the encounter. The works presented here have absorbed the influence of many paintings from the 1300s to the early 1900s, highlighting the importance of memory as it inevitably transforms and gives new form.

Lorenza Sannai was born in Sardinia. She lives and works in Valeggio sul Mincio (VR) and Hudson (NY). For years her pictorial research has persisted in investigating geometry, space and color. Since 2014 she is a member of the American Abstract Artists association with which she annually participates in group exhibitions in NYC or traveling shows in the USA and Europe in private galleries or museums. In the last three years she had solo exhibitions in Cagliari and Mantua, and was invited to participate in the Lissone Prize in 2018. Her work is in public and private collections.

"The exegesis of a work is placed in the unresolved space of reciprocity, which never grants any possibility ok stillness between the artist and the beholder." Donata Negrini
