The medium of collage that I employ deals with the materials of the consumer world, how they travel from place to place and are discarded. I pick up any material whose aesthetic energy I am drawn to and combine with other found materials that have inspired me.
For some time, I have engaged in a very specific exploration of the qualities of cardboard, a material usually used for transport and then recycled, whose colors and textures appeal to me.
Some years ago I was inspired to work in a square and began working in a specific 17.8 x 17.8-cm contained format. In my work, I transform familiar materials into art.

Barbara Knight was born in Great Britain, grew up in the United States and lives and works in New York and Crete. She showed assemblage, sculpture and site-specific outdoor sculpture in New York before turning to collage, transforming ephemera and disparate found materials into abstract art. As she moves around, she captures the collage aspects of landscape for her photographs. Knight has exhibited in New York, Greece and Berlin; her work is in private and university collections in the United States and Europe. www.barbaraknightny.com
