Nicola Renzi

Uncards

Saturday October 31 2015
only between 4:30 and 6:30 PM

These are rejects left from other works. They are what has literally been expelled, removed from the papers I have used. But then, they indeed themselves become instruments for the building of an image. They are discards of cards. They become fresh possibilities, they change into uncards.

Nicola Renzi is born in Perugia in 1972. Studies at Koninklijke Academie in Den Haag and at the the Fine Art Academy "Pietro Vannucci" in Perugia. By following seminars in modeled arts and metal work he meets international artists such as ArnaldoPomodoro, Eliseo Mattiacci, Bernhard Rudiger and Vito Acconci. From the very start he concentrates his artistic research on new and unusual materials which he likes to transform with painstaking attention to detail. Beginning with the 90's complex textures made of elastic bands used to produce whole environments, until the most recent works, he investigates the ultimate components of art, translating and betraying them so as to allow them to live on.

He wins various commissions for private and public works (see Italian bio above). And participates in several exhibitions of note, among which: 2011 54° Biennale di Venezia, Regione Umbria, Palazzo Collisola, Spoleto, curated by V.Sgarbi, G.Marziani. 2011 ArtPrice UNICA, Urban Istitute for Contemporary Art, Grand Rapids Michigan, US. 2010, XI Premio Cairo, curated by Luca Beatrice, Alberto Fiz, Palazzo della Permanente, Milano. 2009, "Fuoriluogo 14-Internazionale", curated by Elena De Notariis, Silvia Valente, Galleria Civica d'Arte Contemporanea di Termoli, Campobasso. 2008, "Arrivi e partenze" curated by Alberto Fiz, Mole Vanvitelliana, Ancona. 2005, Premio Lissone, curated by Massimo Bignardi, Claudio Spadoni, Museo d'Arte Contemporanea, Lissone, Milano. 2003, XIV Quadriennale di Roma, curated by di Massimo Bignardi, Vitaldo Conte, Vincenzo Trione, Riccardo Notte, Palazzo Reale, Napoli. 2003, Premio Maretti Editore, curated by Concetto Pozzati, Roberto Daolio, Silvia Grandi,Galleria d'Arte Moderna, Bologna. 2000, XL Premio Suzzara, curated by Martina Corgnati, Walter Guadagnini, Suzzara, Mantova.
