I bring out and put on the table little fragments, parts of a wider organism that builds up inside my space in an attempt to explain myself.

Works: Could you help me to understand what I am doing?; Sedimentation cm. 18x16; Infinite fragment; Leporello (a reproduction); Pellestrina; A little box with travel Journals, Every journal leads to the next; In travertine, A fragment of painting with stone...

My work places the experience of colour at the centre of its praxis; colour as substance, as a trace of existence. The pictorial procedure that takes place with precise regularity inside my space is often placed in close relation with other realities.
At the centre of my research are themes such as time, the diary, sedimentation, the persistence of the pictorial gesture, and painting in relation to space.
In the work it is the existential experience, time, that leaves a trace of its passing through the substance-colour. The form is the result of following my method, the process is more important than the form.
The paintings are the consequence of the sedimentation of layers of colour that I paint on the canvases every day. Visually they almost look like monochrome paintings with just a small multi-layered strip at the top, which bears witness to the various passages.
The continuity of painting is how I deal with my gesture. It is as though spreading substance on a surface, its sedimentation, were nothing more than adding an action to other actions that were already completed or are in the process of being completed.

Maria Morganti was born in Milan in1965. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Brera and studied at the Studio School and N.Y.U. in New York. Since 1995 she has made Venice her home. She puts the experience of colour at the centre of her work: colour intended as substance, as the trace of existence. Her pictorial procedure takes place in her studio and follows a precise systemisation (one colour a day), though it often puts her in close relation with other realities and other spaces.
Her numerous exhibitions include: Maria Morganti curated by Angela Vettese, Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, Venice 2006; Leporelli in White Screen curated by Milovan Farronato, Via Farini, Milan 2007; Diario cromatico curated by Chiara Bertola, Fondazione Querini Stampalia, Venice 2008; Indugi with Bruna Esposito, curated by Chiara Bertola, Galleria Caterina Tognon, Venice 2009; L'Unità di misura è il colore curated by Chiara Bertola, Museo di Castelvecchio, Verona 2010; Un diario tira l'altro curated by Marco Tagliafierro, Galleria Ottozoo, Milan 2010; Procedere, trasformandosi, rimanendo, Galleria Caterina Tognon, Venice; Giardini squisiti, con Massimo Kaufmann, Casa Testori, Novate Milanese, 2014; Pronuncia il tuo colore, a cura di Francesca Pasini, OTTO ZOO, Milano, 2015.
